Our Story
House of Braid was founded by Tassara Azad with a mission to create a space where all hair textures are welcomed and celebrated.
Eight years ago, Tassara started the brand from her bedroom in her parents’ home. Growing up, she struggled to feel confident with her curly hair and turned to braids as a solution — especially as a lifelong athlete who needed her hair secure and out of the way.
After graduating from USC, she recognized a gap in Los Angeles for a modern, easy-to-book braiding destination for all hair types. With no formal training, she taught herself how to braid, built her own website, and grew her business through relentless work, word of mouth, and consistency.
Her parents’ office became an in-home salon, and during the pandemic she adapted by braiding outdoors — a turning point that accelerated the brand’s growth. Two years in, she met her fiancé, who helped scale House of Braid into a true brand.
After seven years behind the chair, Tassara saw another gap: clean, high-performance products made specifically for braids didn’t exist. She spent over two years developing formulas designed to work on every hair type.
